Nancy the Mayor

Nancy and
Congressman Brad Sherman |
The North Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce has re-installed
a new board, new officers and, most important of all, has
brought Nancy Cartwright back as honorary mayor.
On March 20th at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills,
CA, Nancy joined over 200 members of the most vibrant Chamber
of Commerce in the Valley for lunch. Following a gripping
speech in honor of our American Flag by Jimmy Weldon, new
President Joyce Sipes presided over the event, taking the
reigns of the organization from Wayne Adelstein, who had been
instrumental in expanding the size and scope of the thriving
business organization and who was recognized for his outstanding
efforts by the Chamber.
Rousing
speeches in support of Valley business and the good it does
for the community in terms of jobs, lowering crime and providing
the vision necessary to succeed were given by US Congressman
Brad Sherman, David Fleming of the LA County Business Federation,
and Thomas Christopher, new Chairman of the Chamber Board.

Nancy and Councilman Greig Smith |
Nancy too had her moment at the podium and she thanked the
crowd for once again honoring her with the position of Honorary
Mayor.

"Simpsons" Cartwright Does
Bart Right
ST. LEO - With her long blonde hair and tasteful attire,
Nancy Cartwright looked nothing like her famous alter ego.
Once the mother of two teenagers opened her mouth, though,
a crowd of hundreds at Saint Leo University's Marion Bowman
Activities Center knew they hadn't stumbled into the wrong
building this week.
"This is weird, isn't it?" said Cartwright, in
the mischievous voice of 10-year-old Bart Simpson. "I'm
five times his age, and I don't have nine spikes on top of
my head."

For about 90 minutes, Cartwright - who does several voices
on "The Simpsons" and has worked on shows and films
such as "Rugrats," "The Replacements"
and "Kim Possible" - told the inspirational story
of her rise from community theater in Kettering, Ohio, to
a place as one of Hollywood's most sought-after voice talents.
Student Nicole Frederick, a psychology major, said Cartwright's
stories about seizing opportunities and surrounding yourself
with supportive friends were her most thought-provoking messages.
Cartwright's other advice was simple, logical and applicable
to almost anyone: Do what you love; do your best; and always
trust your instincts.

Second Annual Jennifer Harman Nevada
SPCA Fundraiser a Huge Success
April 20, 2008
John Caldwell
www.pokernews.com
There are many charity poker tournaments these days, but
only a few of them would qualify as events. Friday at the
Venetian, about 275 generous poker players saddled up to play
some poker and help a great cause at the second annual Jennifer
Harman Nevada
SPCA Fundraiser.
The room was a virtual "who's who" of poker, as
celebrity poker players gathered to help out animals in need.
Brunson, Ivey, Negreanu, Greenstein, Hachem, Lederer, and
dozens of poker's brightest stars sat down to rebuy until
they could rebuy no more, and raise some money while re-raising
each other.
The "rebuy battle" was on early, as Daniel Negreanu
and Eli Elezra were out to see who could rebuy more times.
Chau Giang was all in almost every hand in the first level,
and the atmosphere was light and festive. The winner of the
tournament would walk away with a seat in Main Event of the
WSOP this year, and everyone at the final table would pick
up a nice prize.
In addition to a memorabilia auction (for the second year
in a row, Doyle Brunson auctioned the hat right off his head),
there were some very cool bounties. PokerNews CEO Damon Rasheed
just missed out on collecting Doyle Brunson's bounty –
a signed $1,000 bill (For those of you under 30 years old,
yes, we used to have $1,000 bills in this country –
they were quite "baller".) donated by Mark and Cheryl
Scott of Sahara Coins and Collectibles.
There were some very cool items up for auction, including
things such as a package where the winner would be invited
to fly on a private jet to Vince Neil's celebrity golf tournament,
dinner and poker lessons with the tournament hostess Jennifer
Harman, and many others. Jeff Madsen picked up a nice snowboard,
while 'Al from Bakersfield' picked up Doyle's hat –
and put it right onto his own head.
The Venetian provided a fantastic environment for the tournament,
with Kathy Raymond and her staff opening their room –
and their wallets – to provide the venue, and also chipping
in $5,000 on top to help out the Nevada
SPCA.
Top tournament director and PokerNews.com columnist Matt
Savage was on hand to walk amongst the tables and keep the
players honest. But, this was not a day about rulings, this
was a day made for having fun and being reminded that poker
can do a lot of good in this world.
Our own Tiffany Michelle wound up finishing eighth in the
tournament, and picking up a nice prize. But, before she sat
down to play some poker, she worked the red carpet, and talked
to some of poker's biggest names about this tournament, which
truly was an event. You can see Tiffany's interviews below.
Thanks to the tournament organizers, the staff of the Venetian,
and the players who generously donated their time, and uttered
the magic word "Rebuy!" early and often. See you
next year.
NANCY CARTWRIGHT HOSTS 3rd ANNUAL MONTE
CARLO NIGHT TO BENEFIT PALS’ EFFORTS FOR AT RISK KIDS
Jamie Gold Joins as Poker Chairman for the September
20th Star-Studded Event
On
September 20, 2008, Nancy Cartwright, the iconic voice of
Bart Simpson and Honorary Mayor of Northridge, will once again
host Monte Carlo night at her home. All profits from the event
will go to Devonshire PALS. The last two years’ events
helped to raise the funds needed to build a new Youth Center
for at-risk kids. Groundbreaking is expected to take place
by Summer 2008.
Jamie Gold, 2006 WSOP Main Event Champion, has signed on to
Chair the Poker Committee, with expectations of poker pros
in attendance including Mary Jones 2006 WSOP Ladies Event
Champion who will be doing a Poker Boot Camp, Jennifer Harman,
Men “The Master” Nguyen, Marco Traniello, Todd
Brunson, Sammy Farha, Kenna James, Kristi Gazes and many more.
Celebrity attendance will be at an all-time high. Already
on board as part of the hosting committee are Brad Garrett,
Camryn Manheim, Sinbad, Tom Kenny, Mickey Dolenz, and Kirstie
Alley, to name a few. Dorian Harewood will return to coach
and host Black Jack.
Entertainment, a cigar bar hosted by Zeno Platinum, dinner,
open bar and much more will be available for players and partygoers.
– $500 per person includes Texas Hold ‘Em, Buy-in,
food drinks and the party, while $250 is the party only price
for non-players who simply want to have a great evening. The
top five players will receive seats to a World Series of Poker
Satellite Tournament.
Digging Deep for Brad
Brad Garrett, Till Death, hosted a Texas Hold ‘Em No
Limit fundraiser at the Hollywood Park Casino on April 20th
with proceeds going to 1736
Family Crisis Center. It was a star studded event with
206 players including his costar Joely Fisher, Terri Hatcher,
Michael Chicless, Mimi Rogers and many writers, agents and
just plain poker lovers.
The 1736
Family Crisis Center is dedicated to providing help and
services to abandoned youths and domestic violence victims.
The proceeds from this event really help them to provide these
services.
Nancy donated enough for two poker seats and sent her Executive
Assistant, Janelle Hynes, and Company President, Peter Kjenaas,
to play. “It was a really fun event,” said Peter.
“There were two things that stand out: Brad doing the
live auction was great standup and the fact that I lasted
much longer than Janelle in the tournament is something I’ll
never let her forget.”
